DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR BRUNCH HAS COME FROM?
Right now, in Australia, at least 10.7 million hens are confined to barren battery cages. They are standing on wire flooring, with no space to stretch or flap their wings, to dust bathe or forage, or express any other natural behaviours. But given how many compassionate Australians are choosing cage-free eggs in the supermarket, where do eggs from battery cage facilities end up?
Over 70 per cent of the total number of layer hens in Australia are suffering in battery cages, and their eggs are the ones you consume when you eat out, and used as ingredients in products you buy. By taking the cage-free pledge, and choosing to eat at venues that serve cage-free eggs, you can help end this cruelty!
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
RSPCA relies heavily on community support to help spread important animal welfare messages. We hope you’ll join us in making a difference to the lives of hens and we appreciate your support however we’re hoping you’ll also encourage your community to take The Pledge. By taking The Pledge and sharing your commitment via social media, we can educate and influence more people to care about the life of Australia’s hens.
WHAT IS THE PLEDGE?
The Pledge is about standing up for hens and making a commitment to only
consume cage free eggs. RSPCA needs everyday Australians to support humane farming practices. By taking The Pledge you’ll be showing your support and helping to make better lives for millions of hens.
HOW WILL TAKING THE PLEDGE MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
You’ll be increasing demand for cage-free eggs, and encouraging more
businesses to use higher welfare eggs.
You’ll be showing your support for Aussie farmers who are leading their
industry in putting hen welfare first, and abandoning battery cages.
You’ll be adding your voice to the thousands who are already calling for
government and industry to take action to end battery cages in Australia
The good news is you can take action for hen welfare without having to go without delicious food! The RSPCA’s Choose Wisely directory has thousands of Australian restaurants and cafes that are already serving cage-free eggs for you to choose from. And the Cage Free & Proud directory lists brands that are using cage free eggs in their ingredients. These resources provide great options when considering where to eat out or what products to purchase.
I have taken the pledge, will you join me in making a difference?
