Being a pet owner comes with so much unconditional love its crazy. We bring these amazing creatures into our homes and they quickly become family members that we simply couldn’t live without.

Taking care of pets is an enormous responsibility that thankfully most of us take seriously. Our pets are not only taken care of the best way possible, they are simply spoilt and that’s the way it should be. It can also be an area where we forget to think about a number of chemicals we are bringing into our home via blankets, toys and food.

Unfortunately, at the moment there are no standards for the amount of lead or toxins in pet toys. Some pet toys have detectable levels of one or more hazardous toxins, including arsenic, chlorine and bromine. Thankfully, there are wonderful companies making brilliant pet toys that are organic, toxin-free and 100% safe for your pets and to have in your home around your family. Look at some options online if you are concerned, there are some amazing options out there.

Then there’s pet food. Pet food comes in many forms and level of quality. But even the highest quality can contain artificial colours and flavour enhancers, chemical additives and toxic pesticides. If you are concerned about your pets food always talk to your vet first. There are many organic brands and options to suit your needs just like with toys.

Eliminating the toxins in our homes is a process. Often the best approach is to replace items one at a time. The next time you are making a purchase for your beloved pet make sure it’s the safest option available for them. Even if it means fewer toys in their collection if they are the healthiest and safest option I’m sure they will thank you for it.
